Environmental Policy statement

Date: December 2025

Our Commitment

SparkOptimus is dedicated to help organizations unlock the power of disruption, improving the lives of people and their surroundings with our services. However, we also believe it's crucial to practice what we preach. Therefore, we are committed to reducing and avoiding negative environmental impact of our business operations. We embed improvement in environmental performance into our strategy, how we work, and how we make decisions. Our efforts are guided by globally recognized standards such as the Paris Agreement, the UN Global Compact principles, and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, and they are aligned with the expectations set by Dutch and EU regulation.

As a result of the above commitment, we have:

  • Secured our B Corp certification in 2023
  • Offset all residual emissions each year since 2018 through high-quality carbon removal credits
  • Shifted our offset portfolio toward durable, technology-based carbon removal solutions, complementing our nature-based credits with approaches such as biochar production
  • Established an internal sustainability team to strengthen our sustainability performance, monitor progress, and build awareness across the organization
  • Set internal absolute reduction targets for Scope 1 and 2 emissions (near-term)
  • Set internal FTE-based reduction targets for Scope 3 emissions (long-term)
  • Reduced Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 34% versus our 2018 baseline, putting us ahead of the trajectory needed to meet our targets
  • Reduced Scope 3 emissions per FTE by 58% versus our 2018 baseline, putting us ahead of the trajectory needed to meet our targets
  • Reduced total emissions by 68% versus our 2018 baseline

Carbon emissions

Each year, we identify and calculate our carbon emissions in line with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. Any annual residual emissions are addressed through high-quality removals used to offset our footprint in line with best available integrity standards. Our offset portfolio is expanding toward durable, technology-based carbon removal solutions that complement our nature-based credits. To guide and strengthen our sustainability commitments, we have committed to the following internal emission reduction targets:

  • Scope 1 and 2: Reduce near-term, absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 40% by 2030, from a 2018 base year
  • Scope 3: Reduce long-term, FTE-based Scope 3 emissions by 70% per FTE by 2050, from a 2018 base year

Waste

Our approach to waste is guided by the waste hierarchy. We prioritize preventing waste at the source wherever possible, then reducing material use and avoiding unnecessary consumption. When waste cannot be avoided, we extend the life of materials through reuse and repair and ensure that remaining waste streams are separated and recycled responsibly. Through these actions, we aim to minimize waste generated across our office and day-to-day employee activities.

Sustainable procurement and supply chain

We aim to extend our commitment beyond our own operations by encouraging our suppliers to uphold the same high standards of integrity, fairness, and respect, with a strong focus on environmental responsibility and climate action across our value chain. Therefore, we have developed a Supplier Code of Conduct that outlines the expectations and principles we aspire for our suppliers and service providers to follow, including environmental responsibility and health and safety, as well as prohibitions against modern slavery, child labor and discrimination, and the promotion of economic inclusion for underrepresented groups. Our Sustainable Procurement Policy further describes how we encourage and, where possible, aim to promote responsible business practices among our suppliers, covering areas such as climate action, business ethics, labor and human rights.

Improvement, Accountability, and Governance

We hold ourselves accountable for delivering the commitments set out in this environmental statement, supported by clear governance and regular performance monitoring. Our Sustainability Lead and internal Sustainability Team oversee measurement, disclosures, and improvement initiatives, and provide periodic updates to employees and the Leadership Team. We track progress through a structured inventory of our greenhouse gas emissions and other key environmental indicators (including energy and waste), using clear organizational boundaries and applying market-based and location-based accounting where relevant. This environmental statement is reviewed annually and updated whenever material changes occur in science, regulation, market expectations, or our activities.
