At SparkOptimus, we try to highlight the most important news and background stories in digital, e-commerce and retail. Here is our selection of last week’s news:
Apple and the FBI ramp up their battle over encryption on the San Bernadino iPhone. The two cannot seem to find common ground about access to the phone. All the while, consumer trust in mobile is being further eroded by marketers’ use of smartphone data. In an effort to rebuild consumer trust, VW has been ordered to make amends in the U.S. by producing electric vehicles (EVs) and constructing nationwide EV charging infrastructure. With plans to release over 20 EVs by 2020, perhaps VW will be able to “go green after riding dirty”.
On a lighter note, how about a ‘taste of technology’? Data cocktail takes this quite literally by turning Twitter data into actual cocktail recipes. Or how about letting kids 3D print their own toys? With Mattel’s Thingmaker trips to the toy store are a thing of the past. And lastly, some highlights from the world of Virtual Reality: a portable 360° camera that allows you to record virtual reality anytime anywhere, and VR ‘sunglasses’ as a new way to experience VR. Unfortunately, sunscreen is not included.
