At SparkOptimus, we try to highlight the most important news and background stories in digital, e-commerce and retail. Here is our selection of last week’s news:
Since the last time we reported on online grocery market developments, another breakthrough has been announced this week: Google is also planning to get in the grocery delivery game. Instead of searching for a nearby grocery store, the search-giant wants to eliminate the grocery trip altogether and will be testing a delivery service for fresh food and groceries later this year. So another player presents itself in this disruptive market, along with players such as Amazon Fresh, Ocado, Instacart, as well as ride-sharing apps like Gett and Uber.
Talking about Uber, the company is losing money fast according to a document leaked a month ago. This is to be expected from a growing company investing heavily, but poaching talent from Twitter presumably also does not come cheap. Or maybe the two car hackers, who wirelessly hacked a jeep and were hired by Uber last week to help devise its own defenses, are asking for an abnormal salary? Be aware Uber, besides hackers, the ride-sharing industry also has another brand new ‘unicorn’: BlaBlaCar, whom have breached the magical border with a valuation of $1.2 billion.
What is also brand new, is Google’s new logo. Let’s celebrate with some beers brewed by the company that has clearly inspired the design of the search-giant. Or would you prefer 3D printed sweets?
