4 December 2017
On November 16th, SparkOptimus held its 5th and final Masterclass of 2017. Led by Jur Gaarlandt, the session featured an array of subjects in the fields of digital, tech, online and of course: Disruption. In short if there’s any holistic message to the Masterclass, it’s that new digital developments influence business in any sector – and that therefore you’ll need to adapt the way you work.
The fact that our group of attendees comes from a large variety of industries underscores this point more than any presentation ever could. By the end of the day, a blend of participants from Private Equity, Retail, Legal, Human Resources and Veterinarian businesses shared one and the same notion: disruption applies to us all and today we got some idea change our way of working in response.
Centered around the 5D model, the mission for the attendees was: ‘Discover what disruption can do for you’. Following 5 D’s: discover, define, describe, drive and delight, the model provides the essential tools for every decision maker to prepare their company for disruption – focussing not just on the “what” but also giving tools to grapple with the “how”.
With industry examples the stage is set for understanding why disruption matters. Everyone is to discover what is happening around them and how it will impact the future. Subsequently using the new rules of the game the attendees are set to define their vision on the impact of their company on consumers business and society. To help them describe this vision in technology requirements, business models and an organizational setup tools and rules are presented. Finally, the decision maker, himself must adhere to the seven principles to drive a new action plan and delight in their new role as change leader, sharing their belief.
This belief was warmly embraced by last week’s attendees, who rated the Masterclass an 8.2 out of 10 and gave invigorating reactions, such as “a very valuable day”, “inspiring as well as practical” and “a complete introduction at high level with concrete lessons learned”.
To elaborate on the point the Masterclasses clarify and to spread the word about the enormous opportunities that disruption affords, SparkOptimus is currently putting in great effort in its book about disruption, which will be published before long – watch this space!
Meanwhile, a new series of Masterclasses lies ahead, starting in 2018.
